There's an emotional reminiscing scene when the band decides that they can't leave one of their own behind, which is a valid story beat, but doesn't quite work in a 13 minute short that hasn't allowed the audience to develop any real affinity towards these characters. Overly cute in both its emotional beats and animation, all of the characters in "Rhapsody" are chibi the short is brightly lit, and there are barely any angles among the many curved lines of the character and set designs. This strange mix of focusing on musicians (a first for a "Star Wars" story) while also being a classic Boba Fett bounty hunting story ultimately feels as though "Tatooine Rhapsody" is leaning too heavily on tried-and-true adventures from the galaxy far, far away what's worse, the stakes feel inconsequential to the overall universe.

That bounty hunter isn't just anybody, it's Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison reprising his role), sent to bring back band member Geezer (Bobby Moynihan) for execution by Jabba the Hutt. To manage stress, then, Mining Guild pilots prefer to use the ship’s maneuverability to sharply cut between asteroids and gain a superior position on enemy ships. The story focuses on a band, trying to make it big in the galaxy but with a pesky bounty hunter on their trail. While the ship can execute all the same maneuvers as its Imperial counterpart, the decrease in power means that pushing the ship to its farthest limits is a bit more difficult. As a result, the Mining Guild TIE loses some of the trademark speed that the ship is known for. These Notched Stabilizers, built into every Mining Guild TIE, give these ships the useful ability to ignore asteroids while moving, letting them freely perform risky maneuvers without the threat of damage from these obstacles!īut this increased visibility comes at the cost of a reduced power output. Most noticeably, Mining Guild TIEs have two panels removed from their stabilizers, granting a much-needed boost to their pilots’ peripheral vision when weaving through the treacherous asteroid fields where they normally operate. These concerns carry over into the design of the guild’s version of the TIE.

Rather than launching offensive operations against Rebel targets and overwhelming them with wave after wave of ships, the Mining Guild cares more about protecting its own interests. In the hands of a corporate entity like the Mining Guild, however, the TIE takes on a wholly different role. From fighters that directly engage other starships to bombers that drop a variety of deadly devices throughout the engagement zone, the mass-produced TIE variants are designed to help the Empire dominate space in every aspect of battle. In the service of the Empire, the countless TIE variations have a single purpose: combat.
